Hi! I’m Erika, the creator of Teacher Twists. I teach dance, fitness, and piano, every day. I LOVE teaching and love to share what I’ve learned. I graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University in 2012 with a B. A. in Dance Education. After working with the BYU Arts Bridge Partnership, student teaching in Salt Lake City, serving on the Utah daCi Day of Dance Board, and performing with several BYU dance companies, I ventured away from the Utah dance world that I’d surrounded myself with and started fresh in Tennessee, where my husband was starting a new job.
When I got to Tennessee, I started teaching studio and rec center dance classes. I had NO connections. Zero. And it was hard finding a studio that was hiring someone they didn’t know! I finally landed a good job and realized I had NO IDEA how to teach dance in a studio. I had loved teaching dance in public schools, but since that is not an option in Tennessee, I was floundering a little. I’ve worked for four years building curriculum for myself, especially in the creative movement genre. And, I’ve amassed quite a few resources. What I’ve always desired, however, was a place to go and get new ideas for dance, without sifting through all kinds of preschool crafts and learning activities. So, I created Teacher Twists: a place to find resources for dance and fitness.
When I’m not working on my website or teaching, I love spending time with the three best people in my life: my husband, daughter, and son. We love to make food, eat food, and give food to friends. We also work out. 🙂 I hope to start getting to know you, too!
